Additionally, she has developed programs for schools, faith communities, and community centers on creating environments that encourage the pursuit of academic and personal excellence.

Maryan’s favorite pastime is spending time with her husband and children creating memories, whether that be hiking the Lake District of North West England, backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, canoeing in the pristine wilderness of Northern Minnesota, woodworking in her backyard, or playing table games. In her spare time, she enjoys challenging jigsaw puzzles, and each morning, she can be found on her two-mile walk with her rescued dog Pierre followed by a calming yoga workout.

Rev. Dr. Sunny Kang (he/him/his) Sunny’s qualifications as a college consultant span back to the mid 1980’s, when as an ordained minister, he helped the children of Korean immigrants navigate the college application process. Prior to the information explosion via the internet, his office housed over 300 college catalogs. Early on, he established a reputation of helping his youth gain access to the most prestigious colleges in the country. At the time there was a saying, “Show Sunny a college building, and he’ll tell you which campus it is on.” Vision to Reality is privileged to have his nearly 40 years of experience in tracking colleges and their admissions trends. His knowledge of colleges allows our students to consider schools from every region of the U.S.A. Furthermore, his training in effective communications and employment as a consultant who specialized in preparing clients for interviews enables him to add to our students' skill set by preparing them for college, internship, job, and scholarship interviews.

Sunny’s community betterment efforts reach locally, nationally and globally. His collective experience enables him to help students envision, plan and execute lasting impactful philanthropic community projects. A few of his personal involvements include building homes for indigenous displaced farm workers in Mexico; developing foster care policy changes as chair of  LA County Commission on Children and Families; guiding the creation of the first Asian-American focused adoption agency in the U.S.A. as chair of the LA Korean Family Resource Center; participating in the Palestinian and Israeli peace delegation; raising awareness of food scarcity nationally and abroad as a member of the National Presbyterian Hunger Program Advisory Committee; expanding efforts of harmony as Chair of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee, and providing grants to community improvement projects focused on self-sufficiency, capacity building, and community improvement as a grant program manager with  the regional office of the McKnight Foundation and the Self Development of People Commitee of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.

Additionally, Sunny has lectured widely on the racial ethnic identity development process of post immigrant minority communities, wrote the first Anti-Racism training program for PCUSA, was an Anti-Racism Trainer for the PCUSA, and trained community leaders in racial reconciliation among minority groups. These experiences enable him to work compassionately and effectively with students and parents from varying backgrounds.

Sunny’s life in the U.S. began at age 12 when his family moved to a small college town in rural Wisconsin. He graduated from University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management with a degree in Business Administration with focus on Strategic Management. He earned a Masters of Divinity from Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN and was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity by United Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Currently he is the Senior Pastor of United University Church – Hope on Union in Los Angeles and a Religious Director at the University of Southern California. As a minister, Sunny’s specialty is guiding organizations through transformation and adaptive changes to develop contextually innovative relevant ministry in urban transitional communities.

Vyse Kang (they/them/their) Vyse is a multimedia doer and maker. They started their journey early and with intention, leaving for college after their sophomore year of high school. An alumn of Bard College at Simon’s Rock, a seminar rooted liberal arts college tucked away in the hills of the Berkshires, they bring a holistic approach to their consulting. Emphasizing the personal growth we experience along the journey, Vyse perceives the application process as an opportunity to explore oneself and share those truths. Each student’s quest is unique, offering different paths as well as skills, and these strengths will be transmuted into essays. Thus, Vyse brings a narrative focused approach to their editing, leaning into literary devices for cogent yet transparent works. Over the past decade, Vyse has participated in the world of college consulting in a myriad of capacities but have always been most drawn to the formation of honest and original thought, which in turn means they love polishing essays.

When not standing at their desk revising, they can also be found sitting at their desk, investing time as a book binder and game designer. If the desk is not involved, they will most likely be in a pile of homemade compost, planting seedlings in Spring, managing rain and watering cycles in Summer, struggling to carry the harvest in Autumn, and hibernating in Winter. Just as the seasons offer different blessings, Vyse believes the different stages of the college consulting process can offer growth to all involved in unique and organic ways. Here is to a curious adventure and the new blossoms formed along the way.

✨ Stay Stellar ✨
